Hi and welcome to The Quilted Cabin! We're glad you stopped by. Allow us to introduce ourselves.
Darlene (Marshall) Cary has been sewing since she was a girl, taught by her mother who was an extremely accomplished seamstress. Darlene continued sewing while raising four children, doing custom dressmaking and a great deal of costuming as the two eldest sons became thespians and musicians. A small venture into quilting in the 1970s produced one completed top, which languished in a box for many years. When a Beginning Quilting class was offered through the Recreation Department where she worked, the motivation reappeared. Bitten by the quilting bug in 1995, she's done almost nothing else since that time. After retirement, she began teaching quilting in 1999. Darlene is a member of two guilds, as well as a group that makes donation quilts for the Pediatrics and NICU Wards of a local hospital.
Sheila Marshall has been sewing since she was in junior high. Although her paternal grandmother was a wonderful quilter (everything was hand pieced and hand quilted) it was Darlene who influenced Sheila to start quilting. Sheila's first quilt was finished in time (just barely) to wrap her first grandbaby in the day she came home from the hospital just over eight years ago. Each subsequent grandchild (a total of nine as of June 2007) has received a quilt to celebrate its arrival. Sheila works full time as a legal secretary and enjoys playing the fiddle and singing in a bluegrass and bluegrass-gospel band in her spare time.
Darlene and Sheila met when Sheila was dating Darlene's son in 1985. Sheila eventually married Darlene's son. Although that relationship ended after 15 years, in this day of multiple marriages, divorces, blended and extended families, there often remains a constant. With a mutual love of fabric in general and a passion for quilting in particular, we are mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in partnership. The opportunity to acquire the existing inventory of a small quilt shop gave us our start, and we are busy adding new items on a regular basis.
Our goal is to share our love of quilting with others and provide quality fabrics, books and supplies from well known manufacturers at reasonable, competitive prices. Darlene's taste for all things Victorian and Sheila's penchant for pansies will ensure that you will find many floral designs, with the emphasis on as many pansy prints as we can find for you (more pansies are on the way). We also love flannels, marbles, brights and blenders, so look for lots of those.
We look forward to meeting you and welcome your suggestions, comments and thoughts. Please stop by and visit any time -- our door is always open.
